This is an important communication as it affects the CIGS NI Ltd construction community undertaking NIHE (Northern Ireland Housing Executive) Grant aided works. The CIGS NI Ltd register is formally closed from 01/06/2023.

This scheme (CIGS NI Ltd) has been in existence from the early 1900s. CIGS NI Ltd is an independent trading company which receives no funding from the NIHE or other organisation. The scheme’s role has been to maintain a registrar of approved warranted contractors who satisfy the eligibility criteria to undertake NIHE grant aided works and provide a NIHE conditional warranty to the customer through the scheme.

We wish to advise that our relationship with the NIHE has expired from 31/05/2023. The management of the scheme decided not to continue this relationship and as such the scheme will therefore cease from 01/06/2023.   The NIHE management has been so informed.

The reason for this decision is that the operational procedures implemented by the NIHE are no longer conducive with the continuance of this Scheme, either administratively or financially. In addition, the scheme management is retiring and/or being dissolved to be involved in other activities.

Warranties will continue to be issued up until 31/05/2023 after which no warranties can be issued. Warranties cannot be back dated if received after 31/05/2023 even if the project started prior. We understand the NIHE are undertaking a review of how a contractor becomes eligible for Grant Aided works. You will need to communicate directly with your local NIHE grants office with regard to any new NIHE procedures after 31/05/2023 (Telephone NIHE 0344 892 0900). All existing issued Warranties remain valid untitled expiry.

Those who hold a valid warranty and have a dispute with a Contractor can contact the scheme via email to  Alternatively telephone contact is available on 02870325980. Existing Warranty Terms and Conditions apply.

CIGS NI Limited management wish to acknowledge the increased level of professionalism that has grown over years with the Northern Ireland construction community. We thank those that have been involved within this scheme and wish you, the construction community, well for the future. We assume the Northern Ireland Housing Executive will continue to provide much needed government grant aid to the vulnerable in our society. In doing so we encourage the NIHE to streamline their bureaucracy, communicate with the construction community and have a greater understanding of its needs in undertaking such works.
